Problem
File storage needs more than upload and download: users need to find files, control access and recover from accidental deletion.
Solution
A React application backed by serverless AWS services, with searchable file management, secure direct uploads and a recoverable Trash Bin.
Architecture
Four REST APIs connect the React frontend to the serverless backend. S3 pre-signed URLs allow direct client-side uploads that bypass the API layer. IAM scopes access, while CloudWatch provides metrics and alarms.
- 01React · client
- 02API Gateway → Lambda
- 03S3 · files / DynamoDB · data
- 04IAM · access / CloudWatch · monitoring
Technical Decisions
- Use S3 pre-signed URLs for secure direct client-side uploads.
- Use soft deletion and restoration through a Trash Bin.
- Scope access with IAM and instrument APIs with CloudWatch metrics and alarms.
Key Features
- Upload and download
- File search
- Deletion and restoration
- Pre-signed URLs
- IAM access control
- CloudWatch metrics and alarms
Challenges
Secure uploads and recoverable deletion are the key concerns addressed by the implementation. Pre-signed URLs separate file transfer from the API layer, while the Trash Bin provides a recovery path for accidentally deleted files.
Outcomes
The implemented platform supports file management through four REST APIs and handled 1,000+ concurrent requests in testing. A live demo is available; the testing figure is not a production traffic claim.
